How plugwit Limited Started

Back in 2015, our founder noticed something troubling. Retirees who'd always loved cycling were stepping away from the sport because they couldn't find gentle, accessible routes. The steep hills and chaotic roads weren't working anymore. But the desire to ride? That was still there, stronger than ever.

We didn't want to create another fitness app or racing community. We wanted something real — actual information about Ireland's most beautiful, easy-going cycling paths. Routes you could ride without burning yourself out. Places where you could stop for coffee, chat with locals, and actually enjoy being on two wheels again.

That's when we started testing greenways ourselves. We've ridden the Great Western Greenway in all seasons. We've cycled the Waterford path on rainy afternoons and sunny Sundays. We've explored quiet roads through the Burren and mapped the Royal Canal from end to end. Everything we share comes from real experience, not theory.

Today, plugwit Limited serves thousands of cyclists across Ireland who want to ride without stress. We've become the trusted resource for finding the routes that work best for your pace, your fitness level, and your schedule.

How We Help You Find Your Route

We don't believe in one-size-fits-all cycling. That's why we focus on three things that actually matter when you're choosing where to ride.

Detailed Route Maps

We've tested every kilometer we recommend. You'll get honest information about terrain, difficulty, surface quality, and where you can actually rest and refuel.

Local Insights

Beyond the official greenways, we've discovered hidden cycling paths through the Burren countryside and quiet roads that won't overwhelm you with traffic.

Community Support

Connect with other riders who understand what you're looking for. Share experiences, ask questions, and discover routes from people who actually ride them regularly.

The Routes We Know Best

These aren't random paths we found online. We've ridden them, timed them, noted the good coffee stops, and identified where you might need to take a breather. This is what plugwit Limited specializes in.

Great Western Greenway

42 kilometers of pure Irish countryside stretching from Westport to Achill. Mostly flat, well-maintained surface, and genuinely one of the most peaceful rides you'll experience. The views of Clew Bay alone make it worth the trip. Expect about 3 hours at a leisurely pace with breaks.

Waterford Greenway

46 kilometers along the Copper Coast with stunning coastal views. This one's slightly more undulating than Great Western, but still entirely manageable. The route passes through charming small villages where you can stop for refreshment. Beautiful at any time of year, especially spring and early autumn.

Royal Canal Path

Urban cycling through Dublin and beyond, following the historic Royal Canal. You can ride just a few kilometers in the city or extend your journey all the way to Maynooth. Flat, safe, and perfect for weekend rides when you don't want to travel far. Great for building confidence if you're newer to cycling.

Burren Backroads

Quiet countryside cycling through County Clare's hidden landscape. These aren't official greenways, but local routes that reward you with dramatic limestone scenery and virtually no traffic. Terrain is more variable, so you'll want some cycling experience, but the payoff is genuine solitude and natural beauty.

What We Actually Believe In

plugwit Limited isn't just pushing information. We're built around a few core ideas about what cycling should be for you.

Slow Travel

You're not racing. We've chosen routes where the point is what you see along the way — the light hitting the water, the way Irish villages feel, the rhythm of pedaling without pressure.

Safety First

Every route we recommend prioritizes your safety. Low traffic, well-maintained surfaces, and realistic information about what you'll encounter. No surprises, just honest details.

Inclusivity

Cycling isn't for the young and fit alone. We believe everyone who wants to ride should have access to routes that work for their pace, their body, and their goals.

Real Experience

We don't write about routes we haven't ridden. Every recommendation comes from actual experience, tested in different seasons and conditions.
