The Journey Began in Cork
Síle's love of cycling started early. Her father was a
cyclist, and she inherited both his bikes and his passion
while studying Geography at University College Cork in the
early 2010s. What began as weekend rides through Cork's
countryside evolved into something more purposeful—a career
documenting Ireland's outdoor spaces and the people who
explore them.
After finishing her degree, she started writing freelance
pieces about Irish tourism and cycling. But it wasn't until
she began documenting the Great Western Greenway's development
in County Mayo that she found her true calling. That project
opened her eyes to something bigger: well-designed cycling
infrastructure could genuinely transform how people experience
aging and retirement.
Since then, she's cycled every major Irish greenway multiple
times across different seasons. Spring on the Waterford
Greenway. Winter along the Royal Canal. Summer through the
Burren countryside. Each route taught her something different
about what makes cycling accessible, safe, and genuinely
enjoyable for older adults.
